Introduction

Amino acid fermentation broth is a complex multiphase system, often containing microbial cells, metabolic by-products, unconsumed nutrient bases, and impurity amino acids. Due to the very similar chemical properties of target amino acids and other components, conventional processes are complex and energy-intensive in impurity removal, clarification, and concentration stages. Plum Membrane Technology Co., Ltd. has developed an automated membrane integration system that employs tubular membranes for sterilization and clarification, nanofiltration for graded decolorization, combined with RO concentration processes. This enables efficient separation and purification of amino acids such as leucine, valine, and theanine, ensuring stable product quality, high recovery rates, and low operating costs.

Process Flow


 

The amino acid fermentation broth (or hydrolysate) first undergoes sterilization and clarification through tubular membranes, removing cell debris, bacterial residues, and large-molecule impurities, significantly improving liquid clarity and stability. Subsequently, nanofiltration membranes are used for decolorization and impurity removal, further eliminating small-molecule impurities, polyphenols, pigments, and other color components to enhance purity and sensory quality. Reverse osmosis membranes are then applied to concentrate the target products, increasing active ingredient content and reducing subsequent energy consumption. Finally, post-processing steps (such as resin refining, spray drying, and crystallization) yield high-purity amino acid products that meet quality requirements, widely applied in fields like food additives, pharmaceuticals, and health supplements.
